Movement Therapy Classes

This is a comprehensive program of movement patterns designed to stimulate the brain’s release of muscular tightness and pain. This unique program utilizes the most advanced neuromuscular retraining techniques designed to stimulate the brain’s release of chronic muscular contractions. These movements directly enhance the in sensing and controlling our muscles, reviving our natural sensory- motor control. Each classis designed to gradually progress individuals at their own pace, moving in their own range of motion.

Soma I

This is a somatic learning process of non-strenuous movement designed to release chronic muscular tension and restore movement efficiency. First in the series this program introduces the movements that each individual will build from at their own pace and in their own range of motion. This program will focus on relaxing, lengthening and gaining control if the muscles form the center of the body to the extremities.

Soma II

Second in the series this program will expand on the basic movement patterns as each individual’s range of motion and flexibility increases. This series will also address the following:
Movements for the Legs and Hips Joints
This is invaluable for walkers, joggers, dancers, or anyone who wants to improve the comfort, efficiency and lasting power of motion.
Movements for Full Breathing
For those who wish to improve respiratory functions and gain greater awareness and control of the process of breathing
Movement for Protruding Bellies
If your abdomen is still protruding even after all your efforts, learn how to permanently change it.
Movements for the Low Back
For relaxing and gaining control of the lumbar spine and trunk.
Movements of the Hands, Wrist, Elbows and Shoulders
Designed to relax after performing repetitious movements.

Soma & Swiss Ball I

This program combines the floor work introduced in Soma I & II, while gradually integrating movements using the Swiss Ball. The “Ball” (also known as the Physio, Soma, Flex, Gymnastik, or Swiss Ball) has been used as a tool for physical conditioning and rehabilitation since 1965, when Swiss physical therapist began using it to help their patients develop balance and maintain reflex response. Today the Swiss Ball is being utilized to enhance athletic performance in many professional facilities across the country. The Swiss Ball is, safe and highly effective way to your body. Te power of the ball lies in its versatility, because it is a ball. In order to maintain position and balance your whole body must participate, which provides high levels of nervous system activation.

Soma & Swiss Ball II

This program will expand on the movements learned in Soma & Swiss Ball I.
As your balance, coordination and agility improve we will focus on strengthening from the center to the extremities. This program will focus on strengthening and developing the following muscles.
· Gluteal Group (Buttocks)
· Quadriceps Group (Upper Thigh)
· Adductor Group (Inner Thighs)
· Spinal Erectors (Upper and Lower Back)
· Abdominal Group (The Trunk)

Advanced Swiss Ball I & II

Having learned proper positioning and technique, now have the basic skill to maximize your training results! The advanced classes will show you’re the most revolutionary way to get a challenging low- impact workout. The key is the ball’s round surface, which allows you to train muscles in ways not possible with floor exercises or conventional equipment. Now as your overall flexibility continues to improve the advanced classes will provide a series of new and original movements designed to allow each person to train within their own target heart rate and fitness level. By adjusting your position slightly your can increase or decrease the intensity to achieve amazing results! Beginning with a rhythmic limbering warm-up the class will move into a series of resistance movements that really tone and strengthen your abs, back, glutes and thighs. Combined with interval training the class will gradually incorporate a series of movements guaranteed to get your heart and lungs pumping! Followed by a cool down that will leave you feeling wonderfully refreshed and totally relaxed. These routines will change the way you look and feel so effectively you will want to do it again and again!
