Hi Dr. DiCenso : I am writing in about my brother He has gone to doctors over time and they were baffled by his condition. He has high iron stores but he has low iron throughout his body. He complains about being tired alot. The only thing doctors said was that it was a rare thing. We are Italian (From the Abruzzi region in Italy)and the doctors seem to relate it to the medditeranean blood diorders but they ruled out thallasemias. I read up on atransferanemia being a rare disoder but I do not know if this would relate to high stores of iron but low iron counts. Have you ever heard of this type of issue with someone?
Thank You for your time. Rita My brothers name is Carlo DiCenso
My maiden name is DiCenso ( I was pleasantly surprised to see that this is your last name)
Hi Rita: I have seen this situation quite frequently over the years. There are several possible contributing factors. The easiest way to isolate the cukprit is with a matrix Assessment Profile. Meanwhile, it can involve the form of iron, the metabolism of iron, competeting nutrient levels, iron co-factors, oxygen binding capacity and even absorption and delivery, I'd be pleased to take a look at his profile, Once I see his results I can make recommedations for resolving or improving this issue. Worst case scenario - I would know who to refer him to.
Meanwhile, My family is too from Sulmona Abruzzi, so it's always fun to meet extended family. Let me know if I can help. If' he's uncertain about the evaluation - we have consults available, as well.
